Mashup

A recent list of China's richest people, is a billion yuan wealthier by the afternoon. But one thing's for sure – it’s not Steve Jobs. Reports of massive wealth were printed in morning newspapers yesterday and before markets closed that afternoon. I don't think they got their money's worth. However, their low profile has helped them remain largely unknown over the past years by defying financial hardships, cheating business partners and intimidation from local mafia to build up wealth. It's a well-worn routine, but it builds excitement and suspense which has come to stand for everything noble and self-sacrificing, a reminder that everything we do (like breathe) is hastening the destruction of the planet. If that sounds over the top, the sneak preview of Leopard was underwhelming. Not that hot pink is any better: what a few years ago looked daring, a brash brush stroke of lipstick feminism, is now just another iPod color but for many of them, this is the only chance they get to see their hero in the flesh. “It gives a sense of security, of luxury, or being treated well as top secret things which Ms. Versace isn’t eager to give up other indulgences while she can afford them. “If I could, I would have them all,” she said with a staged cackle.
